ColonneSonore.net Awards 2014: Winners Announced!
WINNERS OF THE 3rd EDITION OF COLONNESONORE.NET AWARDS ANNOUNCED:
Giordano Corapi elected Best Italian Composer of the Year
Alexandre Desplat wins as Best Foreign Composer of the Year
Online voting for the Third Edition of ColonneSonore.net Awards, the prize of ColonneSonore.net voted by readers and followers of the website, closed yesterday and winners are now being announced. As it happened in the previous two editions, the public poll was met with great enthusiasm both by our readers and film & tv professionals in the Italian industry, with more than 5,000 votes in all six categories. Once again, the variety of choices is the most striking aspect that emerged from this year's online voting, thanks to a selection of winners that includes both highly acclaimed composers and up-and-coming new talents.
Emerging new talent Giordano Corapi scores a double win as Best Italian Composer of the Year and Best Music for an Italian Film—his retro-styled, 1970s-inspired score for the mob film Take Five granted him the top prize in both categories. An Italian composer also wins in the category Best Music for a Foreign Film—young composer Kristian Sensini wins the top prize thanks to his sensitive and moving score to the Latvian animated film Rocks In My Pockets. A surprising win, made even more impressive considering the tough competition among the nominees (who included top names like Hans Zimmer, Howard Shore and James Newton Howard among others).
Academy Award-winning composer Alexandre Desplat wins his first ColonneSonore.net Award as Best Foreign Composer of the Year, thanks for his impressive and multi-faceted work in film scores like The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Imitation Game, The Monuments Men and the huge blockbuster Godzilla. Desplat is rapidly becoming the single most popular (and original) voice in modern film music.
In the category Best Music for an Italian Televisions Series or Mini-Series, composer Stefano Lentini wins by a large margin thanks to his work for the super-successful tv series Braccialetti rossi (Red Bracelets).
The song “Io credo, io penso, io spero” from the independent drama BlackOut wins as Best Original Song for an Italian Film. Performed by Italian popstar Antonella Ruggiero, the moving song is written by composer Marco Testoni and lyricist Edoardo De Angelis and Maria Cristina Di Giuseppe.
All winners will be honoured with a certified plaque. You can see the final results of the public poll at the following link: http://www.colonnesonore.net/sondaggi
